4What Builds Animated Charity Website Program for the 2nd Chance Foundation
December 15, 2008
Naples, Florida - 4What Interactive today announced the launch of two websites for a local charity. 4What worked with The Second Chance Foundation to launch http://www.charityforchange.org/ and http://www.charityforchangekids.org/.
Charity for Chance takes a refreshing approach to philanthropy, teaching children about helping those in need, while at the time having a fun, important and memorable experience.
Designed to appeal to Elementary-school-age children, the website features the animated character known as "Giver," who teaches kids about helping others, as well as positive character traits. 4What Interactive's creative team created Giver. Amidst a backdrop of bright colors and jungle motif, Giver makes charity fun for kids, which was the goal of the website. "We really enjoyed creating this piece for the kids and feel honored to work with such a worthwhile organization," says 4What Interactive CCO Reid Atwood.
The website and online character supports the Charity for Change School Giver program. In the classroom, children are asked to give some of their pennies. Each class sets a goal and chooses a charity to contribute to. Banks are collected weekly from the classroom and the money tallied. A gauge shows each class how much money they have raised. Kids go online to play a math game, for which they can earn more money for their charity (contributed by the Community Partners).
Online, Giver guides children through math problems, providing encouraging words after each correct answer. At end of each quiz, Giver does the "Giver Shiver." The dance seems to have caught on. At Calusa Park Elementary and Lely Elementary, where the program is being piloted, teachers report that children love it, and the entire class gets up to do the Giver Shiver.
"The website grabs and holds children's attention and makes the challenge of collecting that extra money fun and rewarding," says Karen Conley, president of Community Partners. As an example of the School Giver program, Lely Elementary collected and donated 1,285 quarters to the food bank for Thanksgiving.
